Data Scientist

About Byteflies

We are the digital health company behind Sensor Dot, a powerful wearable platform for 24/7 acquisition of physiologic and behavioral data. We have developed remote monitoring applications for COVID-19, epilepsy and cardiovascular diseases, and have a pipeline of additional clinical indications.

Byteflies is structured in autonomous cross-functional teams that all have skills to complete their own part of the Byteflies mission. All of these teams have great autonomy in reaching their goals. We are looking for an entrepreneurial colleague for the Connecting the Dots team with lots of energy and passion to spread the telemonitor gospel and change the lives of patients and healthcare professionals.

How you fit in our team

You are a data scientist driven by a never ending curiosity to transform buckets of time series data into beautiful visualizations and clear medical insights for a wide variety of stakeholders. You know your way around traditional signal processing workflows and relevant machine learning techniques. You don’t break a sweat when handed hundreds of gigabytes worth of time series data and you have a natural ability to apply your skills to “n of 1” experiments, as well as datasets from hundreds of patients. You are as comfortable hacking together a quick proof-of-concept as you are working on medically-regulated production algorithms. You are an excellent team player who thrives in multidisciplinary teams and can translate their needs into clear and efficient code.

Your Role

On a weekly basis, our Data Scientist will:

  • Design and develop signal processing algorithms for feature extraction, pattern recognition, and multimodal physiologic data integration
  • Build elegant data visualization tools
  • Assist software developers in deploying algorithms into production-ready code and maintain data pipelines
  • Work in a medically-regulated (ISO13485) environment
  • Translate input from application engineers into workable and shareable code
  • Quickly learn from available literature or other sources of information to implement pragmatic solutions at the right quality

Your skills and experience

Our Data Scientist should be someone who:

  • Has demonstrated (industry) experience in a data science role
  • Is fluent in Python or equivalent (we rely heavily on Python and Jupyter) and assorted development tools
  • You know about filter design, time series feature extraction, artifact detection, and other common signal processing algorithms
  • Has at least a basic understanding of relevant machine learning algorithms
  • Has demonstrated experience with big data workflows, including parallelization and larger-than-memory tools
  • Is a quick learner who is comfortable around relevant scientific literature
  • Describes themselves as a high-achiever who thrives in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary environment, and is always willing to go the extra mile to learn from and teach their colleagues

We offer

  • A possibility to take part in our journey to enable out-of-hospital monitoring and the chance to have a direct impact on people’s health care
  • Growing with Byteflies will unlock rapid professional growth and lots of new challenges
  • A bunch of awesome colleagues who will challenge you to keep learning
  • A working environment based on real autonomy & responsibility
  • A hybrid work environment: our main office is in Antwerp: we come to the office when we want to, and when we need to. Nobody will regulate your time in office vs remote work
  • A competitive salary and benefits package is of course part of the deal
